Youth Courses

2010 Course Dates 

 
To book a course with NSSA you need to join as a member first. New members can download a membership form from the home page. Existing members should use the renewal form sent out with the newsletter. Membership for 2010 is £35. Course booking forms are also available on the website. There is no further charge for youth courses.
 
All Youth Courses are four days.
 
Block 1   Sundays : 18th April, 25th April, 9th May, 23rd May  Course completed
 
Block 2   Saturdays : 12th June, 26th June, 10th July, 17th July  Course completed
 
Block 3 Sundays : 13th June, 27th June, 11th July, 18th July   Course completed
 
Block 4 Saturdays :  11th Sept, 25th Sept, 9th Oct, 16th Oct  COURSE FULL
 
Block 5 Sundays : 12th Sept, 26th Sept, 10th Oct, 17th Oct  COURSE FULL 
 
Oppie Advanced Saturdays : 17th April, 24th April, 8th May, 22nd May  Course completed

NSSA wishes to support as many young people as possible and therefore we can only accept one course booking per member in the first instance. Those who wish to apply for a second course will be put on a waiting list until nearer the start date for that course.


Oppie Advanced    

A course aimed at Oppie sailors of Stage 2 or above. Come and extend your skills in a larger more competitive group.

Blocks

Each Youth Block combines Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced courses, suitable for 8 to 18 year olds. Each course is  offered using Optimists and Toppers and is structured to meet the RYA Young Sailing Scheme from Taster and Stage 1 (beginner) to Stage 3 (advanced).

 

Youth Afloat
This course is sailed in two-handed boats and is aimed at the RYA Young Sailing Scheme Stage 4. It has a mininimum age of 13 years and Youth Sailing Scheme Stage 3. This is offered using the following range of boats :- Leader, Wayfarer, RS Vision, Laser 2000, Laser II and Fireball (subject to weather conditions and experience!).

Youth Block Racing
This block is aimed specifically at developing racing techniques. The entry level is age 13 years and RYA Young Sailing Scheme Stage 3 .It is a good introduction to club racing and is particularly useful for members aspiring to be selected for the NSSA team for the National Regatta in July.
