Who are the NSSA

The Norfolk Schools' Sailing Association (NSSA) is a non-profit, voluntary organisation that runs a programme of sailing courses and activities, at Filby Sailing Centre, for children and adults of all abilities. The Association is affiliated to the National Schools Sailing Association and to the Royal Yachting Association (RYA).

Our goal is to teach young people to sail
The NSSA participates in the RYA Young Sailors' Scheme and offers a variety of Adults RYA Dinghy courses catering from Beginner to Advanced levels. The boats available include Optimists, Toppers, Splashes, Lasers,RS Visions, Leaders, and Wayfarers. All formal sailing courses adhere to the recognised RYA standards and ratios. Our Instructors are qualified to appropriate RYA levels.

Our courses run throughout the season and range from courses for complete beginners and novices, through to Advanced and Instructor level candidates. The tuition is geared to keep pace with each individual's needs but don't expect a certificate for turning up... Our candidates earn their qualifications!

NSSA Membership

Membership is open to all over the age of eight years.

The minimum age for application to any of our youth courses is eight years of age. Membership is currently only £30.00 per year and covers administration costs, regular newsletters, and allows members to attend any of our Youth courses, subject to availability.

Adult courses usually start in April of each year and cost £150 for 5-day intensive course, or £120 for a 4-day intensive course. The courses are run over a number of weekends, so... please check our course information to find out what we can offer and the dates to attend

Would you like to Help?

We are always keen to attract people with some sailing experience who'd be interested in assisting in teaching people to sail, especially those interested in undertaking Instructor Training.

Our Instructor Training represents extremely good value for money and can incorporate power boat and first aid qualifications where needed. There has never been a better time to become an RYA Instructor with the NSSA. See the Instructor Training page for further details.

You don't have to be a sailor or an Instructor to be able to help us. We need dedicated people, prepared to offer their free time to assist with the day to day running of our organisation. Whether you are able to help with some of the administration or lend a hand to pull boats out of the water, we are always looking for happy helpers. A sense of humour helps, and so does warm clothing. If you would like to get involved please contact us
